Ana Raquel Matos is Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra and senior researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES). She holds an MA in "Sociology of Development and Social Transformation" and a PhD in "Governance, Knowledge and Innovation" from the University of Coimbra. Currently, she coordinates the Doctoral Program "Democracy in the 21st Century". Her research interests broadly lie in the area of collective action and non-conventional forms of political participation. Applying critical discourse analysis as a conceptual framework, she has studied the mobilization and advocacy strategies of various Portuguese social movements across a variety of themes (health services, climate change, environmental conflicts, education system, participatory budget).
