Pedro Abrantes is a sociologist and has been a professor at Universidade Aberta since 2013. He has taught at several other universities and polytechnic institutes in Portugal and Mexico, while remaining a guest lecturer at ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, the institution where he graduated and obtained his PhD in Sociology. He has participated in various national and international research projects in the areas of education, social inequalities and life paths. He was president of a fair trade association and the Portuguese representative on the European network. He is a member of the Portuguese Sociological Association and the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences. Between 2016 and 2020, he was an advisor to the Minister of Education and, between 2020 and 2022, Deputy Director-General for Education and Science Statistics. He then returned to Universidade Aberta, where he is currently a professor, coordinator of the Global Education research group at the Center for Global Studies, and coordinator of the Observatory of Professional and Life Paths of Graduates.
